A trimmer stops cutting for one of eight reasons: dull or damaged blades (most common), blade misalignment, hair/debris buildup, lack of lubrication, motor or battery problems, broken guards, corrosion, or simple wear and tear. Start by cleaning the blades thoroughly, checking for hair around the blade housing, and oiling the blades. If that doesn't work, test the motor by running the trimmer in the air you should feel vibration and hear a clear hum.
